Clean up Australia - doing our bit!

It's not hard to find a poignant image illustrating the state of the environment or the threat of climate change. Even less so now as Photoshop plays an increasing role in how we view the world. But this image, created by WWF, struck a chord 20% of the world's global emissions are caused by deforestation. And you can't Photoshop real life.

Some might say that after decades of clearing land for agriculture that this whole scheme is a bit hypocritical but at least nowdays, our generation has realised the untold damage that over-clearing has caused to the environment and that there are now organisations and groups doing something about it!

Every year hundreds of thousands of Australians get stuck in and clean up their local environment by collecting and removing rubbish on one of the Clean Up Days. Learn about the variety of events we run under this banner. The next Clean Up Australia Day will be held on Sunday 4 March 2012.

As well as participating in the flagship Clean Up Australia Day event held on the first Sunday in March, Australians are being encouraged through our communities, schools and businesses to organise their own Clean Up Day events at any time of the year.

Tennessee is a big lumber producer. I don't like it. Some of the companies that clear cut the big acres, will plan replacements, but they cut down the deciduous trees and replant conifers. It just makes me ticked!
