The record flood menacing the Queensland town of St George has claimed its first life, with confirmation that a toddler died in floodwaters outside the town last night.
The largest evacuation in Queensland's history has been completed in the town, with just a few hundred people defying orders to abandon the town as floodwaters quickly rise.
This morning authorities confirmed that an 18-month-old had drowned in floodwaters on a property outside St George at around 10:00pm. Paramedics were unable to to revive the child.

I don't know what to say. This is a terrible tragedy. I hope the people who decided to stay behind will be okay.
And I hope the people who evacuated will have something to go back to.
Still recovering from last Year; how tragic for a child to die. Sad.
