A group of high school students has been left stranded on Mount Buffalo in Victoria overnight after a landslide
closed the main access road yesterday

The Mount Buffalo Road was closed about midday, with four large boulders and debris covering the road halfway up the mountain. VicRoads was still waiting for machinery from Tallangatta late in the afternoon to start work on clearing the road. A blast crew was sent from Myrtleford to the scene to assess whether explosives would be needed."

This is crazy ! How close is all of this to you, John. Where exactly are you located? The guy I went to school with lives in Melbourne, as well does my F/B penpal.

It's fairly wide-spread over New South Wales and Victoria. Melbourne is in Victoria and about 8 hours south of us. We are located on the Southern Tablelands of NSW, around about here: http://www.wilmap.com.au/nsw/yass.html

The crazy guys in the video surfing Sullivan's Creek are in the grounds of ANU, my undergraduate university - Sullivan's Creek runs through the University (which is located in the centre of Canberra, ACT) and empties into Lake Burley Griffin (Canberra's American-born architect/town planner) which is held back by the Scrivener Dam (also shown). The Cotter Dam and it's new wall construction is the essential part of Canberra's water supply and flows into the Murrumbidgee River (which feeds from the alpine regions of Australia.

Scary amount of rain you are having.
Where I used to live in Worcester floods a lot.
Keep safe and dry.
