Beef and Mushroom Ragout slow cooker

I just put on a Chuck steak crockpot.

1lb of diced chuck steak, chopped onion, bacon,  all browned together in a separate pot.
Drain and and combine a small can of button mushrooms (reserve juice) with some chopped shallots and carrots and add to the crock pot and then put browned steak, bacon and onion on top.
Put in a 'slurp' of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon of brown sugar and a generous pinch of sea salt.
Mix a tin of chopped Italian herb tomatoes with a McCormick's Chuck Steak slow cooker base and the mushroom juice.

Pour the mixture through and give the pot a good stir to ensure even distribution.
Cook on low for 8 hours.
15 minutes before serving stir in half a cup of frozen peas.

And that, folks, will be our dinner tonight while we watch the "Red Dog" DVD (review to follow tomorrow). With Rhonda on seven evening shifts straight there'll be left-overs for my dinner for a couple of those evenings.

Yum...we don't have all those lovely sauce bases here (bummer). But an Aussie friend is coming over to visit, I think I'll ask her to bring some with her and we can try out your recipe. Thanks John.

Available at any supermarket, so your friend should be able to pick up some sachets - and they are sealed, so they should get past customs OK!

We need more of those here, I agree. Thanks for sharing your recipe, John. Sounds yummy!

It was yummy too! Just a 'touch' on the back of the tongue of something warmish - I think the McCormick's base may have has some spice in it like paprika.

Annmarie, it was good! we sat with large bowls on our laps with fork and spoon and buttered bread as we watched "Red Dog" (the DVD). Poor Denny was turning himself inside out wanting some as well! lol!
