Muslim "Innocence"

New South Wales State Police stand guard outside the US Consulate in Sydney

Have Sydney-siders got this straight?

Because on the other side of the Pacific, somewhere in California, some loser has thrown together some kind of amateur Internet video insulting your particular god, you think it justifiable to:

  • Take over the Sydney CBD.
  • Cause willful damage to property.
  • Throw rocks at police officers who are doing nothing more than their duty.
  • Hold up such ludicrous signs as “Behead all those who insult the prophet.”

We have to ask:
"Do you have the first clue as to the ramifications of your actions?"

" Do you not understand that the net result of such irresponsible, appalling action is to give ample fuel to every racist in the country to reinforce every bad stereotype they have ever had of you, and that will affect badly the hundreds of thousands of other peaceful and law-abiding Islamic Australians?"

Demonstrators charge the police lines and are repelled

In short, WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!

Get this straight, and quickly - some of you may be from countries where this kind of thing is acceptable. But it is NOT acceptable in this country.

  • In this country you are free to worship whatever god you damn well please.
  • Others are free to worship their gods.
  • And I am free to say it is all nonsense over imaginary friends.
  • But you are not free to create the mayhem you did yesterday, simply because you don't like a freaking video!

Racists have said for years, “If you don't like the way we do things here, go back to where you came from.”

Marchers move to Hyde Park for a prayer meeting

Demonstrators in Hyde Park attack police demanding that arrested protestors be set free

The net result of your actions yesterday is that – for those people specifically disgracing themselves in the CBD yesterday, not the vast bulk of Islamic Australians – much of the country now feels the same.

Nice work!

Well said, it is all i can do to remember there are millions of muslims who are not rioting... I have not, however, heard any of them condem the actions. That is probably because they are afraid to speak up and be beheaded.

What does that say about the perversion of this religion?

Yup.
And they are a peaceful religion.

Riiight.

Hope you have a great Sunday, John!

Their rationale - "We have the right to defend the prophet!"

The rationale of the small and noisy minority is that 'we have the right to defend the prophet'. I am sad about the riot. That said I am also sad that the video which so distressed muslims here and abroad has been defended under 'the free speech' banner. If that is truly so, then the rioters are also exercising their right to free speech.

False corollary! Sure, whoever made the video is a rabble-rousing mischief maker, however, that said, it does not give people the 'right' to (ab)use 'Freedom of Speech' provisions to cause riot, mayhem and civil disobedience.

When the bullshit is thick, you need to ensure your 'bullshit filter' is fully turned on.

Sorry John but I have seen that video defended in a number of places as an expression of free speech. I don't think I have heard from the maker of the video in question, but I have certainly seen his/her 'right' upeld. The video strikes me as not dissimiliar to throwing rocks at an already unhappy bee hive. The reaction strikes me as responding to a rock with a bomb.

The video certainly comes under some countries laws as regard to the freedom of speech. Even the protesters have a right to demonstrate and voice their dissent. They DO NOT have the riot to create mayhem and violence and to attack police who were trying to keep them away from a 'terror target' - the US Consulate.

I see, today, the NSW police are now forming a 'strike force' to arrest the protest leaders - they have identified them!

There are numerous suras in the Koran that specifically command true muslims to 'kill the infidel' by 'smite him on the neck until he is dead.' They don't need much of an excuse to start 'smiting.' Soon it will be more than rioting in the streets of Sydney I'm sure. Islam is in no way a peaceful religion.

Agree - on all points!

Islam is not a race, it is a religion.

Muslims may condemn the violence, but Islam is violence.

Take a look at the world you live in. Do you ever see any other religion rioting or blowing people up?

JohnD said...

Anonymous - No! (I don't see other religions rioting and blowing people up - Do you, if so, give examples) and ..... I don't really care if they are a race, religion or a group of racing camel enthusiasts 'cos what they did and continue to do is wrong and the NSW state police are about to 'drop the hammer' on the agitators and perpetrators responsible for committing or encouraging the damage and affray!
