Saturday's Scribe - The Cross of Terror

This story is, in my humble opinion, the greatest piece of crap grand-standing I have seen for a long time and, in my book, typifies a lot of what currently ails the United States of America!

9/11 Cross Lawsuit
A group of atheists has filed a lawsuit claiming the display of the World Trade Center cross at the 9/11 memorial in lower Manhattan is unconstitutional, calling it a "mingling of church and state."

The American Atheists, which advocates an "absolute separation" of government and religion, filed the lawsuit Monday to stop the display of the cross, arguing that it should not be included if "no other religions or philosophies will be honored," according to a statement on the group's website.

The cross, which consists of two intersecting steel beams that were found intact in the rubble at Ground Zero, was initially constructed on a side of a church in lower Manhattan. The cross was then placed inside the 9/11 Memorial Museum during a ceremony over the weekend.

This is a sad case of the many being bullied by the few, and the many are being put out! The whole thing makes me sick. It makes the many, sick and the few, snicker and mock!

I agree with you, John. It is one of many things wrong with this country now.
And there is plenty more than just that going on.
A 'popular' saying here is United States of the Offended.
Personally, I believe we are not united about anything, any more. We are just a contiguous land mass that is God's doing and not any of our puny doing.

Oops. I guess I better be careful or I may offend an atheist with that statement...

It is really annoying and depressing.

john
we remember the little church adjacent to ground zero very well when we saw it only a couple of months after 9/11..

it looked valiant standing alone in front of the destruction

"Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities. Most inclusively, atheism is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist. Atheism is contrasted with theism, which in its most general form is the belief that at least one deity exists."

For a group that do not believe in dieties, I fail to see how they believe they can have a say about what symbols people are allowed to take some form of solace from and demand instead that all versions of religion should be represented on this site?

It is also a false belief to eschew that a cross remains soley the symbolisation of christianity at a commemorative site for the thousands who died there and does not, instead, say to us 'Remember! Thousands were killed here!'
